La Fortuna de San Carlos, is considered one the most beautiful locations in Costa Rica. The city is located approximately 100km from Alajuela, and 120km from the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose, in the south. For geography lovers La Fortuna de San Carlos is the principle gateway to the magnificent Arenal Volcano National Park, and the city also has a beautiful, and vast variety of flora and fauna in and around the city.

There are number of different style resorts and hotels in the city, to suit all tourists, such as Hotel San Bosco, Hotel La Pradera, Hotel Arenal Jireh and also Los Lagos Hotel. Due to it's close proximity to the volcano La Fortuna is a popular place as it is also close to Juan Castro Blanco National Park, Tenorio Volcano National Park, Poas Volcano National Park and Braulio Carrillo National Park. Take a trip to La Fortuna Waterfall for some beautiful photographs.

Car hire is available at Juan Santamaria International Airport, located only 1.5 hours south of La Fortuna. Pre-book online in advance to secure a vehicle and collect you car on arrival to the airport. Public transport operating from the airport includes shuttle buses and taxis, which can be very pricey, especially if you are travelling north to La Fortuna so book a hire car and obtain the freedom to see the sites in style and comfort.

 What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

 Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

What kind of insurance is applicable to my car rental?

In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car.
