Malaga Airport Guide

Car Hire

Malaga Airport is Spain's fourth-busiest airport. Located just an eight mile or three mile drive from Malaga or Torremolinos, respectively, the hub is mainly used by European tourists, especially those from the UK and Germany, for accessing destinations around the popular Costa del Sol region. Car hire in Malaga Airport is a great way to tour the coastal resorts.

Who to Book With
Those interested in arranging their own personal transportation can find a suitable vehicle through one of the 23 companies that serve Malaga Airport. Nine firms; Autos Lido, Aurigacrown, Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Goldcar, National, Record and Sixt, have desks in the terminal. Off-site companies usually pick their customers up in a courtesy bus.

Need to Know Essentials
You will need to show the following documents at vehicle collection:

- Full valid driver’s licence (both parts)
- Credit card used for the reservation
- A passport for confirmation of driver’s identification
- Booking confirmation

For more info read our FAQ's.

Driving around Spain's towns and cities is often hectic and parking spaces can be hard to find. Fines of up to £80 can be issued to drivers who park illegally. Driving across Spain without a map can be a stressful experience, especially in areas where one-way or no left-turn roads are commonplace. Drivers on Spain's highways must rest every two hours or risk a fine. Most Spanish filling stations accept payment by card or cash, with payment usually made after filling, as in the UK.

See our guide to Spain for more information on driving here.

Malaga Airport is easy to access as it is connected to key roads in the area. Drivers travelling from Marbella or other destinations to the west can use the AP-7, while the A-46 connects with the north. The E-902 links with towns and cities to the east. Buses, taxis and trains are the other options for those without their own vehicle.

T3 has its own train station which connects Malaga Airport to Malaga city centre and popular destinations around the Costa del Sol, such as Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola. Trains run every half an hour from 07:00 until 00:00 and fares cost around £1 per person but vary depending on the time of day. The service is provided by Malaga Cercanias.

Taxis at the airport leave from outside T3's Arrivals area. Official taxis have an orange sign on their roof and either a meter or a book full of set fares to key destinations around the area.

Taxi prices:
Malaga Airport to Torremolinos is about £15
Malaga Airport to Fuengirola is about £30
Malaga Airport to Marbella is about £55

Airport buses run between Malaga Airport and Malaga bus station. They cost around £7 per person and take around 45 minutes. Budget-conscious travellers can cut costs by opting to take the bus into Malaga and then a taxi, especially if travelling to destinations such as Puerto Banus.

Malaga Airport has three terminals that are all easy to travel between given their position adjacent to one another. Each year, around 12.5 million passengers use Malaga Airport to access destinations around the Costa del Sol and southern Spain.

Malaga Airport has four parking areas: P1 and P7 general public car parks, P3 for long stays and VIP parking. Parking is supplied by Empark. Typical rates stand at around £5 per day.

Wi-Fi at Malaga Airport is supplied by MOVISTAR and registration before surfing is required. Accessing the internet for one hour costs about £5, while 24 hours of access costs about £10. Those that require 30 days’ access must pay around £70.

What most people want to know

The following questions and answers are a selection of the most popular questions. If you do not find the answer to your question, have a look at the Frequently Asked Questions page or contact us.

Is Carrentals.co.uk the cheapest?

Yes, we offer a guarantee of the lowest price - because we compare various retailers, we can always offer you the best price in town.

What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

What kind of insurance is applicable to my car rental?

In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car.

What is a worry-free label?

This label indicates that a rental car satisfies the following requirements: Unlimited kilometers, no excess liability (and no excess cover available), sustainable energy policy, and that the car rental company has a good reputation. Availability of cars satisfying these four requirements will speed up the selection of a suitable vehicle for you.

How can I change or cancel my reservation?

You can cancel your reservation through "My Account". We recommend contacting us by phone if your changes to your booking or cancellation takes place at short notice (48 hours or less).

When will I get a confirmation of my booking?

Most reservations will receive confirmation within minutes after payment takes place. We recommend contacting our Booking Department for last minute reservations (pick-up within 48 hours).
