Dallas Love Field Airport Guide

Car Hire

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is a massive complex. It is rated the eighth busiest airport in the world as regards annual passenger traffic and the fourth busiest in terms of yearly aircraft movements. Designated as an Airport City, it holds five terminals and a variety of onward transportation options, including taxis, express rail links, rapid transport buses, hotel shuttles and car and limo hire. For travelling around the city and the region, car rental in Dallas Airport is a favourite choice for its convenience and affordability.

Who to Book With
The airport’s consolidated car hire centre is located close to the complex’s south entrance at 2424E 38th Street. Ten rental companies serve the outlet, including Alamo, Advantage, Enterprise, Dollar and Thrifty, and the car hire facility is accessed via a 10-minute trip by shuttle bus, with services running every five minutes day and night from the terminals.

Need to Know Essentials
The following documents must be shown at the vehicle collection point:

- Your UK, EU or home country driver’s licence

Driving
The US drives on the right. Excellent roads and a reasonable standard of driving means experienced motorists shouldn’t encounter any problems driving here. A major hassle is Dallas’s heavy rush hour traffic, which totally blocks highways and arterial roads between 07:30 and 09:00 and 16:30 and 18:00. Most of the city is covered by intersecting freeways which may be confusing at first: care must be taken in noting your required exit. Petrol stations are found everywhere, with fuel much cheaper here than in the UK, and card payment is standard. Downtown Dallas has a plethora of off-street car parks close to most of the attractions and shopping districts. Seatbelts must be worn, a warning triangle should be carried and mobile phone usage without a hands-free kit is forbidden.

See our guide to the US for more information on driving here.

Transport

Transport options after you’re arrived are plentiful and include Trinity Railway Express trains, rapid transport bus services, a scheduled van shuttle service, taxis, hotel shuttles and charter buses.

Trains
The Trinity Express Rail link runs from Dallas and Fort Worth straight to the airport’s rail station Monday through Saturday. The airport’s rail station is located at the Remote South Parking Lot, which is easily accessible from terminals A, B, C, D and E by regular shuttle bus. The journey costs around £2.50 and takes around 40 minutes.

Taxis
Taxis are found between 08:00 and 24:00 at ranks outside terminals A, B, C and E on the upper level and on the lower level of Terminal D. Between midnight and 08:00, passengers should call: +1 972 574 5878 to request taxi services. All taxis are licensed and metered, and rates don’t include airport exit and drop-off fees, fuel surcharges and other extras which can make taxi travel an expensive option.

Taxi prices:
Dallas Airport to Dallas city centre is about £30
Dallas Airport to Plano City Hall is about £45
Dallas Airport to downtown Fort Worth is about £35

Buses
Dallas Airport Rapid Transport (DART) offers bus travel from the airport’s Remote South Parking Lot Monday through Sunday, with a shuttle service linking the terminals with the bus stop. Routes 310 and 408 run to Dallas city centre and other destinations at a cost of about £1.50, but journey times are difficult to estimate due to heavy traffic at various times of day. Bus route 500 covers Belt Line Station on the DART Rail Orange Line commuter rail service. Many Dallas hotels provide airport shuttles on request for guests.

Terminals
There are five terminals at the airport which are linked with frequent shuttle buses and Skytrain services. The hub serves a passenger throughput of around 57 million a year. KLM flies to Amsterdam, British Airways flies to London-Heathrow, Lufthansa flies to Frankfurt and a plethora of smaller carriers operate flights to small US cities.

Parking
Parking at Dallas Airport comes in four categories to suit all visitors: Terminal, Express, Remote and Valet. Terminal parking lots are adjacent to each of the five terminals, with 28,000 bays in total. Express includes pick up and drop off, a shuttle service between terminals, luggage assistance and more distant car parks.
