Rugby Guide

Rugby is one of the biggest towns in the historic county of Warwickshire in England's West Midlands. It lies along the banks of the River Avon and is just 13 miles east of Coventry, close to the borders of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. The town has a good mix of old and modern English life and is best explored by car hire in Rugby.

Rugby is credited with inventing the sport of the same name, so it is a popular pastime in the town. There is also plenty of architecture to enjoy here, however, for those looking to stay relatively bruise-free.

The town centre has many Victorian and early 20th century buildings, as well as a few that date back much further. Rugby school and St Andrews church are good examples and are easily reached by cheap car hire in rugby.

Rugby is packed with restaurants of all kinds and a huge amount of pubs. In fact, in the 1960s it was said that Rugby had more pubs per square mile than almost anywhere else in the country. Many of them are very traditional and serve a great Sunday lunch. If you are visiting them with car rental in Rugby, however, be sure to go easy on the local ale.

Sheep Street and High Street in the town centre are pedestrianised and good spots for those who want to shop. There is also a street market several days a week here and the huge shopping centre known as the Clock Towers.
