Caerphilly, home to the biggest castle in Wales, is a town located in the Rhymney Valley. The capital city of Wales, Cardiff, is only 20 minutes away by car. The suburbs of Lisvane and Rhiwbina are only a few minutes drive over the Caerphilly mountains.

This medieval castle was built during the thirteenth century and is the largest of Wales' Castles and the second largest in Britain, Windsor being the first.

The castle exhibits impressive defence tactics of the past and there is a huge water moat surrounding it. The castle also exhibits a cutting edge example of great military planning of the past. It is easy to spend a day exploring the castle and its grounds.

Caerphilly is ideal for a holiday with its stunning countryside. The beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park is a must visit here. Caerphilly is about 80% countryside and is a great place for outdoor activities. Walking paths and trails can be found all over the Welsh hills and offer gorgeous scenery.

There are also more adventurous activities such as canoeing, archery, quad biking, abseiling and horseback riding. There are beautiful lakes in the area as well. If you visit the town of Caerphilly be sure to try the tasty local restaurants during your stay. There is also an annual cheese festival in summer.

If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
