Falun is a city located in Dalarna in central Sweden. Falun Downtown is the administrative seat of the Falun Municipality as well as the capital of Dalarna County. The entire municipality has a population of fifty-five thousand inhabitants with more than thirty-six thousand of those inhabitants residing in Falun. Even though the mine has been closed since 1992, Falun Downtown remains an important industrial and service city to this day.

It is a known fact that the town of Falun has been in existence sine the fourteenth century as a market place for the lands that surround the region. Copper mining was the local trade as of the mid-1200s. The organization that extracted gold and copper from the Great Copper Mountain is thought to be the oldest enterprise in the world that still exists. The organization has been active since the late 1340s when King Magnus IV of Sweden granted it charter. The company's first share dates all the way back to as early as the late 1280s.

Today the city of Falun Downtown is holding a section of the University College of Dalarna for education.

Falun is host to the Swedish Ski Games each year at the skiing arena. The most successful sports team is Falu BS who has ranked in the top division of Sweden for several years.
