Ciutadella Guide

Guide

Ciutadella is a popular city on the island Menorca. It is situated in the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea just off the shores of mainland Spain. This is a town of excellence, a cradle of culture, which opens the doors of its traditional hospitality. With such simple roads to drive car hire in Ciutadella is a popular choice, as it gives you the freedom to tour the sights in and out of the city. Book today to secure a car at a fantastically low price.

Explore Ciutadella

There is an array of prehistoric evidence of past citizens who originally inhabited the island of Menorca and other islands in the Mediterranean, and is therefore a great place for history buffs.

Ciutadella still retains much of the Moorish influence and has a quaint port encircled by narrow streets. Beautiful old palaces, churches and noble buildings can also be seen today in the city centre, which were once surrounded by large defence walls. As you wander around, you will also find the Naveta des Tudons; the taules and talaiots, the caves and the prehistoric villages like the ones at Cala Morell or Son Catlar.

The quaint narrow harbour is a delightful postcard scene, perfect for an idle afternoon lunch. One of best places to view the harbour is from the main square. On one side of the square is the town hall, opposite the fabulous 'Palace Torre Saura'. The Fiesta de San Juan, which takes place here at the end of June, is not to be missed.

You are never far from the coast on this island, but the small villages inland are typically Mediterranean, and best explored by car, together with a compulsory trip to 'Mount Toro', which is the highest point on the island. Visit the large, well preserved tomb 'Naveta' or explore the islands sandy beaches of Cala Santandria, Algañares, Cala Blanca and Cala Blanes for a more relaxing adventure.

Transport

Menorca’s Mao Airport can be reached from any major Spanish International Airport, as well as many European cities, and there are even connections directly to Ciutadella. Car rental companies operate from desks in the airport's arrivals hall. These include Hertz, Avis, Europcar, National Atesa and Owners cars. Please book a car before travelling to Menorca, as there is a limited supply of rental vehicles at the airport. Prices are also cheaper online.

Once on Menorca, various transportation options are available into the town itself, including cheap, and fairly reliable buses and taxis, which are more expensive.
