Lanzarote Airport Guide

Car Hire

The primary gateway to one of the Canary Islands’ loveliest destinations, Lanzarote Airport, is located midway between the cities of Arricife and Puerto del Carmen on the island’s beautiful eastern coast. The facility is about 45 minutes’ drive from the stunning landscapes of Timanfaya National Park and just a few minutes’ drive from Playa Honda and plenty of other fantastic beaches. These attractions and countless others are easily accessible and best explored with car hire in Lanzarote Airport. Alternatively, travellers can use one of the three public bus routes or taxi services at the airport.

Who to Book With
More than a half-dozen car rental firms have offices at Lanzarote Airport. Names on offer include Europcar, Payless, Hertz and Avis, as well as Spanish brands Carbrera Medina, Cicar, Goldcar and Auto Reisen. Rental counters for all firms are located on the ground floor of both terminal buildings.

Need to Know Essentials
Bring the following documents to the rental counter to collect your hire car:

- A credit card in your name
- Your passport
- A valid driver’s licence
- Your reservation number

For more info read our Hiring Tips.

Driving
Road conditions in Spain are generally good, although some remote roads on the island may require extra caution, particularly at high elevations. Traffic regulations are similar to those in the UK; make sure you turn to the right side of the road when exiting car parks and fuel stations. Traffic fines are issued on the spot. Compulsory items include warning triangles and a spare bulb kit. Seatbelts must be worn at all times.

Refer to our Spain travel guide for more insight about driving here.

Transport

Passengers renting cars will have the easiest time getting to and from Lanzarote Airport. Moreover, the island is a destination worth exploring from the comfort of your own vehicle. However, taxis are available and can be convenient though they are costly for getting to many destinations on the island. Finally, buses run to a handful of popular areas during limited hours.

Taxis
There are taxi ranks situated outside both terminal buildings on the ground floor. The minimum charge for service is about £3 and fares rise on weekends and holidays, as well as between 22:00 and 06:00 on weekdays. Trips to or from the airport entail a supplementary charge of around £1.35.

Sample taxi rates:
Lanzarote Airport to Arrecife is about £10
Lanzarote Airport to Puerta del Carmen is about £12
Lanzarote Airport to Costa Teguise is about £18
Lanzarote Airport to Playa Blanca is about £30

Buses
There are three bus routes serving the airport. Route 22 heads to Arricife every 25 minutes from 07:00 to 22:40; the trip takes around 10 minutes and costs about £1. Likewise, route 23 heads in the same direction but makes stops in Playa Honda. Lastly, route 61 heads to Puerta del Carmen and Playa Blanca every hour from 07:30 to 22:30 on weekdays and every two hours from 08:00 to 22:00 on weekends and holidays. Tickets cost about £2.50. Visit Intercity Bus ' official website for additional information.

Facilities

Terminals
Lanzarote Airport is comprised of two terminal buildings: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is used for domestic and international flights, while Terminal 2 is used exclusively for flights within the Canary Islands. Passenger facilities are split between two levels in both terminals. There is a 200 metre walkway connecting the two buildings.

Parking
There are two car parks on site; P1 is located adjacent to Terminal 1 and offers more than 1,000 spaces, while P2 is situated at Terminal 2 and features an additional 200-plus spaces. Prices are the same at both facilities. A 60-minute stay costs about £0.70, while each hour thereafter costs about £1. The daily rate for the first four days is about £9 per day and each day thereafter costs about £7.

Wi-Fi
Free wireless internet access is available to passengers. Contact the information counter in either terminal for more information.

Information Services
Airport information counters are available on the upper level of Terminal 1 and on the lower level of Terminal 2. There is also a tourist information office on the ground floor of Terminal 1, near the Baggage Re-claim area.

Frequently asked questions

Is Carrentals.co.uk the cheapest? Yes, we offer a guarantee of the lowest price - because we compare various retailers, we can always offer you the best price in town. What do I need to do when picking up a car? To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient. Are there any additional costs? In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance). What kind of insurance is applicable to my car rental? In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car. What is a worry-free label? This label indicates that a rental car satisfies the following requirements: Unlimited kilometers, no excess liability (and no excess cover available), sustainable energy policy, and that the car rental company has a good reputation. Availability of cars satisfying these four requirements will speed up the selection of a suitable vehicle for you. How can I change or cancel my reservation? You can cancel your reservation through "My Account". We recommend contacting us by phone if your changes to your booking or cancellation takes place at short notice (48 hours or less). When will I get a confirmation of my booking? Most reservations will receive confirmation within minutes after payment takes place. We recommend contacting our Booking Department for last minute reservations (pick-up within 48 hours). Which car rental companies are compared by Carrentals.co.uk? at this location
