Hato Rey Guide

The district of Hato Rey in the Puerto Rican capital city of San Juan, can be found near Old San Juan. The district is divided into three areas: Hato Rey Central, Hato Rey Norte and Hato Rey Sur.

When exploring this part of San Juan, car hire is strongly recommended. While public transportation and taxis are available, they can be time-consuming, unreliable and, at times, expensive.

In Hato Rey, car hire can be found at: Munoz Rivera Ave #268. To arrange your car hire you will just need to provide a credit card, driving license and passport. If your driving license is from the United Kingdom, you are required to show both parts of it.

Hato Rey's roads are easy to navigate, however you may wish to purchase a map and guidebook before setting out in your car hire. This will allow you to familiarise yourself with place names, directions and locations which should allow you your driving experience to be more pleasant.

Driving through Hato Rey, you will be able to take in the contrasting lifestyles that are found in such a small area. While much of the area is very poor, La Mille de Oro, the Golden Mile, in Hato Rey Central, is one of the wealthiest areas in town. This one-mile long stretch of road is home to many corporate headquarters, including Banco Popular. Those looking for a concert or sporting event can pay a visit to Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum.

In your car hire, you can visit the Caribbean's largest shopping mall, Plaza Las Americas. Over 300 stores are located in this Roosevelt Avenue shopping centre, including JC Penney, Macys and Sears. The mall's La Terraza food court has over 40 restaurants. A 22-screen cinema can be found within this shopping centre which has free parking.

 What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

 Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

What kind of insurance is applicable to my car rental?

In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car.

 What is a worry-free label?
