Veszprem Guide

Veszprém is a picturesque and quite city, which lies on the both side of Sed creek, north of the famous Hungarian Balaton Lake. The city is a capital of an administrative county of the same name. One can reach Veszprém from Budapest via the M7 motorway and Road 8 through Székesfehérvár.

According to the legend here, the city was found on seven hills, the same like Rome. The seven hills can be counted even today.

You can just walk around streets and squares, observing the typical buildings and stonewalls and listening to the bells and you will have full impression of the special athmosphere of the city. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the famous Veszprém medieval castle - former King's and Queen's seat as well as an Episcopal seat. The castle was almost totally destroyed during the Turkish period of the city. Today the castle is re-build and surrounded by constructions from 18th and 19th centuries.

The city is among the first in Hungary with University - the well-known University of Pannonia. In 1272 fire destroyed the building and Veszprém became again a university center in the 20th century
