Frankfurt Ostbahnhof Guide

The ancient city of Frankfurt is now a busy and modern city which still remembers its history. Popular for its museums and festivals, millions of tourists visit every year. The main gateway into the city is through its airport which is the largest in Europe. It is also easily accessible by rail, with links to various European cities. Car hire at Frankfurt Ostbahnhof is available for use throughout your stay.

The place that most visitors head to first is the Altstadt, or in English, the Old Town. It is a quaint place that hasn't changed much over the years, with its cobbled streets and wonky houses. It is full of charm and makes for a pretty picture or two. For a more imposing building, Saint Bartholomeus' Cathedral is the place to visit. It is the city's main church, was built in the 14th century and was used by the Roman Emperors.

Along the north riverbank, there are around 20 museums, all exhibiting different things from art to film, architecture to modes of communication. Every August, the museums open their doors into the night and there is a festival with live shows of music and dancing and a large display of fireworks.

Car rental at Frankfurt Ostbahnhof is a great way to take your shopping back to the hotel. The most popular and high quality shopping area is the Schweitzer Strasse which offers many top class boutiques selling very high quality products from clothes and shoes to cosmetics and toiletries. It is worth spending some time here, even if you are just window shopping.

A great day (or days) out is to the nearby Rhine Valley. To get there, use the cheap car hire at Frankfurt Ostbahnhof, and tour the small villages along the river. Each village is picturesque and friendly, and in between you will see the plentiful vineyards which the region is famous for. Take a river boat trip to admire the many castles along the way.
