The place that most visitors head to first is the Altstadt, or in English, the Old Town. It is a quaint place that hasn't changed much over the years, with its cobbled streets and wonky houses. It is full of charm and makes for a pretty picture or two. For a more imposing building, Saint Bartholomeus' Cathedral is the place to visit. It is the city's main church, was built in the 14th century and was used by the Roman Emperors.
Along the north riverbank, there are around 20 museums, all exhibiting different things from art to film, architecture to modes of communication. Every August, the museums open their doors into the night and there is a festival with live shows of music and dancing and a large display of fireworks.
