Bergerac Station Guide

Guide

Bergerac is a lively, dynamic market town in southwestern France, situated 56 miles (90kms) from both Agen to the north and Bordeaux to the east. This region is often called the gateway to the Prigord' and is mainly known for its tobacco and wine, with 12 recognised wine Appellations d'Origine Contrle (AOCs).

The Bergerac Rail Station is not directly on the high-speed TGV line but is served by the slower Corail and TER services. Regular rail connections to Bordeaux and Libourne provide TGV access to Paris and other destinations.

The Bergerac Rail Station provides adequate amenities for passengers including lavatories, ATMs, newsagents and refreshment stands. Cheap car hire services are also available and can be booked online in advance.

The town's charming cobblestone streets and greenery draws an increasing number of tourists every year. There are two points of interest in the historical district: the old bridge, constructed in 1838 and a reminder of Bergerac's river trading past; and the neo-Gothic Notre Dame church built in the middle of the 19th century.

The town is also home to a museum of tobacco, a cinema and a disco. Bergerac has a range of accommodations ranging from low-cost backpackers' hostels to luxurious villas.

Public transport in Bergerac is somewhat restricted making it difficult for visitors to get around. Car rental is a convenient and cost-effective choice, providing access to the town's attractions and the picturesque countryside.
