Arles Station Guide

Guide

Arles, located in the scenic Bouches-de-Rhones region of France, is a charming town with a long history dating back to Roman times. With many monuments, historic and cultural exploration are among the many things to do while holidaying in this quaint city.

The Arles Rail Station is accessible from Marseille St Charles Rail Station with travel time taking only 55 minutes. Arles Rail Station is a ten minute walk from the centre of town and is close to many guesthouses, shops, and other amenities. Routes also run to Avignon from the station, while connecting train services from Marseille provide access to many major cities, including Paris.

The city is home to a number of historical monuments that have been designated world heritage site status. Among these are the Roman Theatre, the amphitheatre and Alyscamps, a Roman necropolis.

The Church of St Trophime is a striking example of Romanesque architecture and features one of the finest examples of sculpture from this period known as the Last judgement. The museum of history, known as the Musee de l'Arles et de la Provence Antiques' houses an outstanding collection of artefacts.

Getting around in Arles is best by walking or cycling, two options that allow you to take in the sights and soak up the atmosphere of this ancient place. While bus routes run through the city and taxis are available, car hire is an excellent and popular option for exploring the surrounding countryside, towns and cities. Jump in your rental car and open your eyes to the scenic beauty around Arles.
