The Oakland Airport is currently undergoing and expansion and overhauling. The Terminal Improvement Program is currently expanding the Terminal 2 area of the airport. The improvements to the Terminal are expected to be completed in 2008. While this expansion is set to better the traveller experience, it is not the last expansion on the books for the Oakland Airport. Further expansions are set to make the airport of Oakland even bigger and better with a higher capacity for incoming and outgoing flights, as well as overall passenger numbers.

The roadways of the airport are also a huge part of the overhaul. More than $120 million is being spent to make these roadways more drivable and an easier connection into and out of the Oakland Airport. As of 2004, Airport Drive was expanded to a six lane roadway to deal with the increased traffic to the airport.
