Situated just over four miles from Lincoln, the state of Nebraska’s second busiest airport serves as an access point to the state city as well as the rest of South Central Nebraska. Shuttle buses operate between the airport and Lincoln, as well as other cities in the state. Still, the most convenient and most recommended way to access the city and other Nebraska locations is with car hire in Lincoln Airport, with downtown Lincoln a 15-minute drive to the southeast.

Who to Book With
Suppliers that offer car rental at the airport include reputable agents such as Hertz, Alamo, Budget and Avis. All agents have counters in the terminal, near the Baggage Claim area, though vehicles are picked up in the parking garage, which is easily accessible on foot.

Driving
Parking restrictions in the US are strictly enforced, with each state having different regulations. In general, vehicles parked in prohibited areas may be towed, with the driver paying a fine to retrieve their car. Curbs are colour coded according to their restrictions, with red, white and yellow indicating parking is prohibited, while green zones allow motorists to park for up to 30 minutes. Petrol stations are predominately self-serve and accept credit cards for payment, but UK visitors should check in advance that their UK-issued card will be accepted. There are toll routes throughout the country, with RDIF transponders used at automatic toll booths. Transponders can be provided by car hire companies on request.

Transport

Self-drive is the easiest way for passengers arriving at the airport to reach the city. Shuttle buses are just as fast but do not run as frequently unless pre-arranged. Taxi services are also available but are an expensive option.

Trains
Lincoln Amtrak station is a 12-minute drive from the airport. From here, the California Zephyr makes a stop en route to Chicago and San Francisco. The train also stops in Omaha, to the east, and Hastings, to the west.

Taxis
Taxis that service the airport are provided by Capital Cab and Yellow Cab. There is a courtesy phone in the terminal for passengers to contact these taxi companies.

Lincoln Airport to Omaha city centre is about £95

Buses
No local buses run between the airport and the city centre. Local StarTran bus number 52 stops close to the airport on West Cornhusker Highway, which is a five-minute taxi ride away, and terminate in downtown Lincoln. The bus runs from 06:25 to 18:25 and costs around £1. Shuttle bus services are also available through Omnilink. Prices run from £15 to £30 depending on how many passengers travel together.

Terminals
The single-terminal airport services an average of 215 aircraft per day and caters to over 150,000 passengers a year. There are no international flights operating here, but UK passengers can arrive via Chicago, Denver or Minneapolis.

Parking
There are four car parks found on site, with two located directly in front of the passenger terminal. The Short Term Lot is the most expensive, while the Long Term Lot, found further away, is the cheapest. Parking tariffs are typically £3 to £5 a day.

Wi-Fi
Passengers are provided with free wireless internet service throughout the terminal.

There is an information desk at the terminal’s main entrance area.

Accessibility
Assistance is available for passengers with reduced mobility. Passengers needing assistance can contact the communications centre by using a courtesy phone or via the information desk. There are parking spaces reserved for passengers with reduced mobility in all car parks, and all tables and restrooms are wheelchair friendly.

Restaurants and Bars
There is a relaxing lounge in the terminal that offers passengers light snacks. There is also a deli that serves up take-away sandwiches and other snacks.

VIP Lounges
There are no VIP lounges at Lincoln Airport.

Money and ATMs
An ATM can be found in the terminal near the car rental counters. There are no bank branches or currency exchange booths on site.

Shopping
One gift shop that stocks magazines, newspapers and books, as well as souvenirs, be found in the passenger terminal.
