Texas Guide

Guide

The second largest state in the US is famous for its charm and hospitality and is a great place to discover with car hire in Texas. Being located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico means it has plenty of beaches, and its famous Tex Mex cuisine is a result of its closeness to Mexico. Austin, the capital city, is famed for its music and alternative culture, while the largest city of Houston has the best restaurants and nightlife in the state. Dallas is best known for its museums, amusement parks and professional sports teams.

Hiring a Vehicle

Well-known car rental suppliers offer cars for rent, with offices in all major cities including Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio as well as at all airports. This makes arranging a vehicle a breeze, but be sure to compare car hire beforehand to obtain the best rate.

Transport Options

Dallas/Fort Worth Airport is one of the busiest in the country and Houston’s George Bush Airport is also a major hub. Austin Bergstrom Airport, found five miles from Austin, offers flights to and from major US airports as well as Cancun, Mexico. The main hubs serving Western Texas are El Paso airport and Midland airport. Three Amtrak routes serve the state, and the I-35 runs through the state north and south. The I-10 and I-20 give access to Texas to the east and west.

Car Hire Driving Tips in Texas

The state of Texas has the highest speed limits in the country, with the I-10 and I-20 allowing a maximum speed limit of 80mph. Other routes have a posted speed limit of 60mph in rural areas and 50mph in urban ones. Driving here is on the right-hand side like the rest of the USA.

Not to be Missed!

Dallas is the best place to use as a base as it is accessible from all directions, making it easy to tour around with car rental in Texas. Drive south to San Antonio to snap a photo of the famous Alamo or take a stroll along the famous River Walk. Big Bend National Park is filled with wildlife and beautiful scenery, while Arlington is a superb place to take the kids thanks to its great amusement parks.
