Dominating the centre of Detroit is the magnificent Renaissance Center, comprised of seven large circular glass towers along the Detroit River. Surrounding the Renaissance Center are many rejuvenated historic neighborhoods including the popular Greektown. It's name follows the large influx of Greeks during the 20th Century. Here tourists will find a number of restaurants, lively bars and plenty of casinos. Take a walk to Trappers Alley, in the centre of Greektown, which was once a fur trapper's warehouse, but today is now filled with museums and shops.

A few miles north of Detroit's city centre is the Cultural Center, comprised of many museums and world-class galleries. Visit the world's largest cultural and historical African-American Museum; The Museum of African American History, located close to the Detroit Science Center.

By air
Detroit is the base for Northwest Airlines, operating out of Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, 20 miles southwest of the centre. It’s a busy airport with regular services to many major US cities, as well as many European flights. By land
Shuttle services and buses from the airport to downtown Detroit are frequent and reliable, operating regularly from 6am to midnight, with fewer services beyond these times.

The Chicago-bound train stops in Ann Arbor. Amtrak rail network in the US is extensive and there are direct services from Detroit to the east and west coast, daily. Services to Chicago are even more regular, stopping off at Ann Arbor.

Greyhound provides bus services to more than 40 cities throughout Michigan, including destinations in the Upper Peninsula, as well as to other Midwest states. It’s the cheapest but least comfortable means of travel, particularly over long distances.
