Liverpool Airport Guide

Car Hire

Liverpool Airport is the setting of famous early television footage featuring a multitude of Beatles fans packing the airport's terraces. When the new terminal building was completed in 2002, the airport was appropriately renamed Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The airport is an easy drive from Liverpool, which is located only 7.5 miles to the southeast, as well as other locations in North West England. Hiring a car to explore the region is highly recommended.

Who to Book With
Travellers wishing to make their onward journey via car hire can choose from seven car hire suppliers at the airport. These are Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, Budget, National, Alamo and Europcar. These companies have offices on the ground floor of the Short-Stay Car Park building, located across from the terminal building. There is a dedicated car park for car rentals to the west of the terminal, across Speke Hall Avenue.

Need to Know Essentials
When collecting a vehicle, you need to present:

- Confirmation of the car hire reservation
- Credit card used in the reservation
- National driver's licence

For more info read our FAQ's.

Driving
Seatbelts must be worn by front and back seat passengers, if fitted. A child three years old or under must wear a child restraint. Seatbelt law violators may be fined anywhere from £30 to £500. Hand-held mobile phones cannot be used while driving. Drivers must be aware of parking regulations specific to the area. Illegal parking may imply a fine or the wheel-clamping of the vehicle. In built-up areas the speed limit is 30mph, in rural areas it's 60mph, and 70mph on dual-carriageways and motorways.

More information can be found in our guide to driving in the UK here.

The M57, M62 and M56 are the most useful motorways for connections to northern and southern Merseyside, as well as to Wirral and North Wales.
