Morpeth Guide

Morpeth is a town in an area of striking natural beauty in Northumberland, England. It has been the centre for administration in the county since 1981, and with good connections from its position near the A1 road, it is a prime spot from which to explore this area of the country. The easiest way to do this is by car hire in Morpeth.

Morpeth lies along the banks of the River Wansbeck, which tumbles through the east of the town. This area is typical of the historic and pretty towns of England, and you will find many nice shops and traditional cafés here.

Cheap car hire in Morpeth is by far the best way to explore all the town has to offer. The Morpeth's Mafeking Park, which is situated by Station bank and the Great North Road, was thought to be the smallest in the country, so much so that it has now been turned into a roundabout.

A nuclear bunker can also be sourced with car rental in Morpeth. If you travel to Loansdean, you will find it below the Morpeth County Hall, which was the former council building. If you take a trip over the footbridge above the River Wansbeck at Dogger Bank, you will also find two whalebones which, marked the sight of the historic Whalebone Cottage.

For those interested in women's history, the grave of suffragette Emily Wilding Davison can be found in St Mary's Church cemetery in Kirkhill. Ms Davison famously threw herself in front of the King's carriage in a fight for the vote in 1913.
