Salamanca sits in the southwest corner of Spain's Castile y Leon, near the border with Portugal. It is a great place to explore at your own pace with many interesting things to see in and around the city. The best way to fit it all in is by picking up car hire at Salamanca Station.

Known as the Paseo de la Estacion de Ferrocarril, Salamanca's train station lies in the north-west of the pretty town and has links from stations in Madrid and Caceres. From here you can take your cheap car hire at Salamanca Station and easily navigate to the old part of town, found in the south of the city. The Rio Tormes river also runs through here.

One of the best things you can do with your time in Salamanca is explore the area's many bars and restaurants. The best way to do this is by car rental at Salamanca Station. The university is also a nice place to visit. As the oldest in Spain, it boasts an abundance of impressive architecture and shady arcades. It is a good spot for picking up the latest local trends from the town's funky students.
