There is no place in the Netherlands like Alkmaar. If you are going to go to the Netherlands this is a place that you have to see. In fact, it's just about 10 km inland from the coast, which makes the whole area smell and look great. The population of this town is about 95,000 in the city and about twice that in the more urban areas. There are tons of things to do in Alkmaar, but most people like to walk around and see the old city. Some people also take bike rides, but it depends on what you want to do. If you take a bike ride, getting to the beach is no problem. There are also a ton of canals that go through Alkmaar, and you can take a canal boat ride. This is one of the things that even the locals like to do from time to time. It's also one of the main attractions for the out of town people that come to visit.

If you do not want to take a boat tour of the canal, you can always hire a canoe in which you paddle yourself. Renting the canoes in Alkmaar is just the same as renting the bikes. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
