Santa Margherita Ligure Guide

If you are looking for an Italian town that does not necessarily cater or rely on tourism Santa Margherita Ligure is the spot! The fair-sized town has not been overrun with tourism, which is why the town has been able to remain afloat for so many decades.

A main part of this beautiful town is their harbor. It mainly caters to small yachts, but there are small fishing fleets that unload opposite the morning fish market. To see this in person is amazing. The business of early morning holds a persons attention. The scene of fish being unloaded and prepared for sale leaves one awestruck.

For those staying overnight there is a wide range of hotels, restaurants and nightlife. The next day one can use a boat service to take in the scenes or take one of a selection of daytrips. Spend your time walking and exploring the seafront.

For dining experiences the options are many. Cafes, Bars and restaurants on the seafront and and in town. A picnic is an option, with a wonderful supermarket available.

For those wishing to explore there is a small hill that dominates the waterfront. Once over the hill and behind the Castello there is the striped Chiesa dei Frati Cappuccini. Overgrown passageways grace this area and up the hill you will see the church of San Giacomo in Corte. A must see is the illuminated Madonna in a rocky niche. Next to the church is the monument Villa Durazzo. This is a monument to the Rivera. Next you will find a beautiful public park in which to rest.

This quaint small town is breathtaking. To be able to see the remains of the past and how this town operates on a day-to-day basis is amazing. A must see for all.
