Carrara Guide

The province of Massa Carrara in Italy is named after the cities of Carrara and Massa, its two largest towns. The total population of the province is around 200,000 people, and that is growing every year. But what Massa Carrara is best known for is its tourism industry. This province is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy; as such, services for tourists abound: car hire services, lodging, entertainment, and dining, just to name a few. And surrounding it all is the world-famous Italian countryside, with a spectacular view of the Apuan Alps only 70 kilometres away.

By far the largest two towns in Massa Carrara are Carrara at 65,000 residents and the provincial capital Massa, with 70,000 inhabitants. Massa is an extremely popular tourist destination, in addition to being the seat of the Provincial government. There are hotel, discos, car hire services, and more everywhere you look. During the summer, tourists can run the car hire services out of cars and the bars out of beer. It all culminates with a gigantic send-off festival, with one of the most spectacular fireworks displays on the continent. There are several critically-acclaimed restaurants for your dining pleasure, and lodgingseavailable for every budgeterange from modest to palatial.

Carrara is the other large town in Massa Carrara. Like most of the towns in this province, it is a tourist town through and through. Boat rentals, car hire services, dancing, dining, and live entertainment are all there to be had. But, like Massa, there is more than the glitzy tourist businesses to be seen here. Old style Italian architecture stands juxtaposed with slick modern storefronts, centuries-old marble and gold fountains guarded by glass skyscrapers. The old and the new are evident everywhere in these cities, and it is all out there for your enjoyment.
