What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

What kind of insurance is applicable to my car rental?

In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car.

When we picked up the

When we picked up the car there was only one person behind the desk. Having waited 45 minutes for our ticket to come up the attendant then dealt with a premium customer who had only been waiting 15 minutes. We finally got our car having waited over an hour. The attendant was very helpful but was on his own and couldn't deal with the amount of customers. The delay in picking up the car had a knock on effect and caused issues when checking in to our accommodation. Lovely car and appreciated the updates via email re the weather and driving conditions. Easy to drop off the car as there were three members of staff behind the desk.

No issues, straightforward web site. One comment is I would like to see a summary of the reservation on each web page through the booking process, it is very easy to mis-type a date or pick-up time. Having a summary displayed affords more confidence to those booking vehicles.

The carrentals site was one

The carrentals site was one of the best I have found to navigate around and choose the right package for our needs. I also telephoned the office for clarification on some points, and found them very helpful indeed. I particularly liked the "worry free" and "no excess" options, which sift through all the complicated excess t&c's, and show you just what you need to know. My only point, as mentioned above, is that this should then not be questioned when you collect the car, leaving you unsure as to the level of cover you require. I would definately use carrentals again in the future.

You guys have always been pretty good. I have booked numerous cars through the years here. The relationship you have with hertz needs improving, as does the communication. There also needs to be an easier way to offer customers refunds/solutions to situations like what has happened above as an experience like that rules out the ease of using a site such as this

Akureyri Airport is located just three kilometres from the Icelandic town of Akureyri. Air Iceland and Norlandair fly in and out of Akureyri Airport from other domestic airports within Iceland. During the summer months, the airline Iceland Express operates a flight to Copenhagen in Denmark.

Inside the airport terminal, there is a small shop and coffee shop that serves light drinks and refreshments. Banking and posting facilities are available. Car rental at Akureyri Airport is available in the arrivals hall.

The town of Akureyri is the fourth largest town in Iceland and just 40kms south of the Arctic. It is surrounded by mountains and fjords and is extremely picturesque. Close to the town and easily accessible with cheap car hire in Akureyri Airport is the popular Botanical Gardens in Kjarnaskogur. Just to the north of the town is the wonderful ski resort of Mount Hlidarfjall.

The drive to Oxnadalsheidi to the west of Akureyri is amazing but you should check the weather and road conditions in advance. Driving in Iceland is definitely a unique experience and keep an eye out for sheep.
