The Blue Caves of Zakynthos, located on the northern coast, are must see sight, here on the island. The caves are easily accessible by boat, and many excursions from nearby resorts operate daily. Their walls are lit up blue from the colour of the waters, and almost all of the caves are entirely filled with water.

The city of Zakynthos is the capital and largest on the island, offering its visitors an array of attractions and interesting sites to see. Some of these include; the Museum of Solomos; a beautiful, well preserved Venetian Castle built on the ruins of an ancient acropolis; the Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos, which displays collections of icons from the Byzantine period to the 19th century, and Kalvos and Eminent Zakynthians Museum which contains relics of poets and other famous Zakynthians.

The island offers its visitors stunning beaches but two have an interesting bonus. If you're lucky you will be able to see the Caretta-Caretta Sea turtles that come into Lagan and Geraka. They come ashore during the early hours of the morning to mate and to lay their eggs.

At night Zakynthos city and Tsilivi offer good options for dining, and accommodation is also plentiful.

Transport

By air
You can fly from Athens on Olympic Airways to Zakynthos International Airport, located about 30 minutes from Zante town, in about an hour. Taxis are fairly reliable and reasonably priced in Zante. We highly advise that you agree a price before getting in.

Car rental companies operate from desks at the airport, prices are more expensive and cars are limited, so if you book with us we will provide you with more options and you will be securing a rental car ready for your arrival.

By bus
From Athens there is a cheaper option to take the KTEL Greek Coach Services which take about 5hrs, or there's the option to take a 4hr bus from Athens to Kilini, and from here take the 1hr ferry to Zante. The trip from Patras is approximately two hours by bus and ferry. There are approximately five services a day from Athens to Zante.

By boat
Car ferry companies operating from Bari, Brindisi, Venice, Ancona, to Patras in Greece include: Minoan Lines, SuperFast Ferries and Anek Lines. The port of Kilini lies approximately 80kms south of Patras. Travelling time from Kilini by ferryboat to Zante is approximately one hour.

In summer, ferries ply the Kefalonia-Pesada and Zakynthos-Skinari-Agios Nicolas routes four times a day.
