Samothraki Guide

Located 32kms from the mainland, Samothraki is a Greek Northern Aegean Island. The island is very remote and undeveloped in comparison to other Greek islands, and offers scenes of outstanding natural beauty. Most visitors book cheap car hire in Samothraki.

Visitors arrive by boat to the island, docking in Kamariotissa, on the north-west coast. Booking car hire in Samothraki is a great way to get around the island. Most visitors to this island seek adventure and exploration, as opposed to the sun-seeking masses that frequent other islands.

Hora is the island capital, and is located five kilometres from the port. The town is very picturesque, with cobbled streets, pine trees and a Genoese Castle as a backdrop. It is possible to explore the town on foot, but having car rental in Samothraki is more convenient.

The island's top resort is Loutra, 14kms east from the main town. Hot springs and verdant scenery attract many tourists, while Mount Fengari is popular with hikers. Having car rental in Samothraki means you can visit the Sanctuary of the Great Gods, which is situated half way up the mountain.

All visitors arrive by boat as there is no airport on the island. Public transport is very limited so having your own vehicle means you can see more of the island. Most of the island's accommodation is close to the pier, along with a host of other tourist amenities.
