Mannheim Station Guide

Ludwigshafen, or Ludwigshafen am Rhein to give the city its full name, is located on the River Rhine, opposite Mannheim, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Ludwigshafen is known as an industrial town and is the birthplace of former chancellor Helmut Kohl.

Accommodation is plentiful with many chain-style hotels offering reasonably priced rooms. Cheap car hire at Ludwigshafen Railway Station is a good choice for visitors wanting to see what the city has to offer. Hotels close to here are well placed for visitors to travel to nearly all of the sights.

Unfortunately, despite injections of funds and redevelopment in recent years, the city isn't blessed with the best shopping facilities. There are a couple of large malls reachable using car rental at Ludwigshafen Railway Station but you will not find trendy designers and boutiques here.

Places of interest in the city include the Pfalzbau, a theatre and concert hall, which is home of the symphony orchestra and the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, which is the most well-known of the museums, though there are several with exhibits highlighting the city's history.

The closest international airport to Ludwigshafen is in Frankfurt, about an hour away. The city has a harbour but it is industrial and not picturesque. Getting around the area with car hire at Ludwigshafen Railway Station is easy as the city has excellent autobahn connections leading in all directions.
