It would be good if

It would be good if there was a way to request a particular format of vehicle, e.g. estate. We knew we would have 5 suitcases so we booked an estate car but the SUV we were originally given was not as big so we had to pay for an upgrade.

In the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, is the pretty town of Hagen. It is a much visited city as it is much quieter than the bigger cities, yet is still close enough to travel into them. The rail station is the main port for visitors, and car hire at Hagen Train Station is affordable and convenient.

The city's art quarter is a new development, with two museums to browse around both displaying a vast array of styles. The two museums are the Emil Schumacher Museum and the Osthaus Museum. It is in the centre of the city, so if you are staying a little way out of the centre, it might be worth using the car rental at Hagen Train Station.

The open-air museum is a large and rather unusual museum which exhibits how to make various crafts. There are numerous workshops in the grounds where visitors can watch the craftsmen at work and even try it out for themselves. There is even a brewery onsite where you can taste the beer.

What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
