Wittlich, Germany, is a place of diverse and natural beauty. There is much for the holiday-maker to explore in its wide open meadows and historical city, so jump in the hire car and enjoy this amazing location.

Starting in January 2008, there has been a drive in the Wittlich, Moselle and Eifel regions to improve the standards of their hotels and to gain at least four stars across the board. Whilst this is an ambitious target, it can only be good news for the tourist that most hotels have at least gained the three star grade.

Wittlich has many attractions, including the George-Man Municipal Gallery of Art which is housed in the recently renovated Old Town Hall and has an impressive collection of some of the most unique works Germany has to offer. For opening times make sure to email ahead of time at [email protected] as times vary seasonally.

The Prison Museum of Wittlich is close to the centre of the city and contains all kinds of law enforcement documentation and objects. It also has exhibitions that show what conditions were like for prisoners through the years. You can book a tour with an expert guide at the Tourist Office in the town centre.

The Culture and Convention Centre is housed in a refurbished Synagogue building (renovated in 1976) and hosts exhibitions in an architecturally idyllic setting. There is also a permanent Jewish Life In Wittlich exhibition for those fascinated by that aspect of German culture.

For those more interested in what the countryside around Wittlich has to offer, there is the Roman Villa just outside of Wittlich (easily reached by hire car). Built around 200 AD, it is a splendid sight and one of the largest villas in the North Alpine region. An excursion to the villa makes a great day out for all as it rests in Wittlich's beautiful countryside.
