Miesbach Guide

Guide

Miesbach is a town in Bavaria, Germany, and it is also the capital of the Miesbach district. It covers an area of approximately 863.50 km of stunning scenic alpine headlands and lakes. The town is located 50 km to the southeast of Munich.

Explore Miesbach

Visit Lake Tegernsee and Lake Schliersee during your trip. Around these lakes you will find the internationally renowned spas, Rottach-Egern, Bad Wiessee and Tegernsee, which will offer you a relaxing vacation experience. To get around these parts travellers should make sure they have their own vehicle.

Miesbach has a very rich history, originally a pilgrimage and mining village, which can still be seen in the landscape of the city today. The town is filled with great historical evidence. In 1882 the town became the starting point for the first ever long distance transmission of electric power, in the world. Electricity was passed along a transmission line from Miesbach across 35 miles (57 kilometres) of land to Munich's Glass Palace, where an electric pump powered a non-natural waterfall. With this, Marcel Deprez and Oskar von Miller were able to prove that it was possible to transfer electric power over great distances and makes this place a very interesting one to visit.

Transport

Munich International Airport is the closest airport, just an hours drive north from Miesbach town. With car hire available at the airport is has become a popular choice of transport for many tourists visiting the area. There is so much to see both in Miesbach, the city of Munich and the surrounding countryside that having your own personal vehicle will make your trip one to remember.

Car hire suppliers operating from Munich Airport include Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Rent A Terstappen. For more providers book online in advance of travel. Save time queuing and filling forms in at the airports rental desks, and be eligible to fabulous online discounts and added extras.
