Bitburg

Bitburg is a capital city of Bitburg-prum district in southern Germany. The city is known for its two American airbase nearby. The city derives its name from its Celtic name Beda. The most well known business in the city is Brewery.

The city was formed about 2000 years back for creating a stop over between Lyon to Cologne. The city's castle gained municipal status in 1262. The city was transferred from Spanish Netherlands to Kingdom of Prussia. The city was destroyed almost in the bombing during second world war.

The city lies in the rail line that is used by trains running from Cologne to trier. There is also a small airport in the town which is mostly used by hobby pilots. The city also has regular buses running in from nearby cities.

The city is located 30 kms north of Trier and is situated at an altitude of 320m above sea level and has a population of about 12,500 residents spread over 48 square km. The city is divided into 7 districts.

The city is connected by the VRT and has several buses and s-rails running through the city. Also walking around the town is one of the best suited and recommended modes to get around the town.

The city's agricultural college built in the 19th century is now the museum of the county and the other places are the heritage museum and the ruins of the Roman empire which specify the history of the town.

The city tourism offers you guided tours to understand the city's ancient past. Also you can purchase tour guides that explain the history of the town in a detailed manner.

The city is pretty humid and dry during the summer months and is pleasant during the winter season with occasional rain. The best suited time to visit is the end of winter or beginning of spring.
