Berchtesgaden is a town that is a city in the Bavarian Alps in Germany. The city's main income is the market. Mt. Watzmann is situated close to the city. Mt. Kehlstein is also another peak that is situated very close to the town. The place has a Rich salt deposit.

The city's first documented records date back to the 11th century. The city came under Bavarian rule in the early 19th century. The city was occupied by Nazi during the world wars and their influence can still be seen in the city.

The city is well connected by the highways B305 and B20. Also the city is connected by Rail to most major cities in the country. The central station in the city has trains from various destinations that come and go through this station.

The city is situated at the base of two mount peaks and is at an altitude of 700m above sea level. It has a population of about 7800 residents over 35 square km. The city is situated in the southern part of Germany almost near the border.

The city is relatively smaller and the best suited mode of transportation is to hire a local taxi to get around the city. The taxis start from just over 4 Euros. Bicycles are also an effective mode of transportation in this hilly region.

The salt mines in the city are one of the major attractions for tourists. The eagles nest is also a place to visit. You can also spend time at the National park and sight seeing around the Mountains.
