The harbour town of Vairire is the first port of call for those making a sea connection from Papeete in Tahiti to the paradise island of Moorea. Located on the north east coast, the town is home to several shops, restaurants and marina. When exploring this island, that is said to have inspired James Michener's island paradise of Bali Hai, Vaiare is ideal for exploring by land.

Moorea's 60 km road network is best explored by car to make the most of all the island has to offer. Car hire in Vairare downtown can be found at: Quai Des Ferries, Vaiare, PF. The closest town to Moorea is the sleepy town of Haapiti on the island's north coast. Le Petite Shopping Village can be found here, as well as a charming coral church. Those in search of a handcrafted pareo should head to Bowsers in the village.
