Only six miles from Strasbourg, in the heart of France's Alsace region, Strasbourg Airport is one of the most important airports of the area, having received more than one million visitors in 2011. Access to the city via car hire in Strasbourg Airport is easy. It only takes 15 minutes to get to Strasbourg's historic city centre, the Grande Île, and 40 minutes to reach Colmar, the wine-producing capital of Alsace.

Who to Book With
Car hire companies at Strasbourg Airport are Avis, National/Citer, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt. The desks of these companies are located in the Arrivals area. The car park for vehicle returns is located right beside car park P2.

Driving
All motorists are advised to abide by the rules of the road as fines can be severe. When visibility is poor during the day, dipped headlights must be used. Seatbelts must be worn by everyone in the vehicle, including those sitting at the back, if fitted. Child restraint must be used; the type of restraint required depends on the weight of the child. Credit cards are accepted at filling stations but not all UK-issued cards are accepted. A warning triangle, a reflective jacket and snow chains must be carried at all times.

Transport

Strasbourg Airport is one of the major international airports of France's Alsace region. Visitors arriving here can take the tram or a taxi to Strasbourg, which is located only six miles to the northeast. Or visitors can self-drive to the city. Route D221 directly connects the airport with route D400 and route A35 for Strasbourg.

Trains
A railway station, found outside the airport, is accessible via a covered footbridge. Trains are run by Transport Express Régional (TER). Trains for Strasbourg depart every 15 minutes, with the total journey taking only nine minutes. A single-journey ticket is around £2.

Taxis
Taxis are available right outside the Arrivals area. Strasbourg city centre is an easy 15-minute drive from the airport. Services rendered at night and extra luggage imply additional charges.

Buses
There is an airport shuttle which departs from outside the Arrivals area, taking passengers to the Baggersee tram station. Buses leave every 20 to 40 minutes. The ride takes about 12 minutes and costs around £4. From the tram station, travellers can make onward connections to Strasbourg city centre and its environs.

Facilities

Terminals
Strasbourg Airport has one terminal building where most of the airport facilities are located. It is an important airport for the region, having received more than one million passengers in 2011. It receives flights from important airports in Europe, including Paris (Orly and Charles de Gaulle), Amsterdam, London-Stansted and Brussels, as well as North African airports including Tunis and Casablanca.

Parking
There are a total of five car parks at Strasbourg Airport. Car parks P1 and P2 (closest to the terminal) offer short-stay parking, while P5 (farthest from the terminal) offers long-stay parking. P4 is for travellers on arranged tours or charter flights. P3 provides underground parking. All car parks are easily accessible on foot from the terminal. One hour of parking costs around £4 to £6.50, while seven days of parking ranges between £30 and £40.

Free Wi-Fi is available at the airport.

Accessibility
Persons with reduced mobility are provided with assistance. However, they need to inform their airline or travel agent of the type of assistance needed in advance. Reserved parking spaces in all car parks, lowered pay phones, special toilets and lifts are also provided.

Restaurants and Bars
There are a few restaurants and bars at the airport. Two are located on the ground floor. In the Arrivals area, visitors can head to Destination Café for hot and cold drinks, as well as snacks. In the Departures area, visitors can go to Bistrots de Chef to savour Alsatian cooking.

VIP Lounges
There are no VIP lounges at Strasbourg Airport.

Money and ATMs
There is a CIC Banque ATM in the Arrivals area which accepts foreign-issued cards.

Shopping
Three shops are found at Strasbourg Airport. On the ground floor of the Departures area, visitors will find a Relay outlet, a newsagent and a general merchandise kiosk. Découvrir l'Alsace, which specialises in local products including food, is also here. A duty-free shop can be found at the boarding area.
