Located close to Lille and the Belgian border, Lens is a small industrial town with several World War I attractions that draw history buffs to the town. Although Lens is quite low key now, tourism is sure to increase in 2009 when a branch museum of the Lourve opens here. Lens Rail Station serves both regional trains and high speed TGV trains from Paris. The trip from Paris Nord (TGV) to Lens takes about an hour.

The Lens Rail Station provides basic facilities such as toilets, public telephones, ATMs and a waiting area. There are a few car rental booths located at the station to accommodate those wishing to hire a car. However, booking a car in advance is strongly recommended.

World War I history buffs can visit the beautiful Notre-Dame de Lorrette on the site of a WWI battle that lasted 12 months. Over 2,000 WWI exhibits are on display at the Musee du Souvenir. Lens has the biggest football supporting communities in the country, with passionate fans. Many of the local bars display the red and yellow colours of the local Racing Club de Lens on their windows and walls. The city's stadium and its club shop are not to be missed.
