Explore Toulon

Stroll through the old town area to witness the remnants of the ancient port that existed prior to the heavy bombing experienced by the town during WWII. A trip along the avenue that runs around the harbor is rewarding, with some interesting points to stop at and enjoy the scenery.

Transport

By air
Toulon-Hyeres Airport is situated 23kms to the east of the city centre and is easily accessible by car, taxi and bus. A regular shuttle bus service links the airport with Toulon city, and taxis are readily available but not necessarily cheap. Marseilles International Airport serves direct flights from many cities. From Marseilles, numerous transportation options to Toulon are available.

By car
From Italy and Monaco, take the A8 and turn left on to the A57 motorway into the city. From Paris, take the A6 (Paris-Lyon) motorway connecting with the A7 at Lyon and continuing on to the A8. Continue along the A8, turning right on to the A52, and take the A50 into Toulon (840kms).

By train
There are many trains that leave at various times throughout the day from Paris’ Gare de Lyon to Toulon. Direct trains take four hours and go every two hours. Some trains operate via Marseille, but take another half-hour to reach Toulon. Other trains from Paris necessitate a change at Lyon and take five hours. Lying northeast of Toulon's centre on Place De L'Europe is the SNCF train station.

By bus
The gare routière (bus station) located on place Albert, is also found northeast of the town centre. Three buses per day arrive from Aix-en-Provence and take 1 hour, 15 minutes. A municipal bus system serves the town as well.
