Set in southwestern France, Saumur is the birthplace of Coco Chanel. Located in the Pays de la Loire region this town, with less than 30,000 inhabitants, is a stone's throw away from the city of Angers and Tours.

Saumur has a long military history. The two Battles of Saumur took place in 1793 and in 1940 and the town was heavily bombed during WWII, primarily due to its strategic transportation routes. Today, it is a sleepy rural French town, with the Chateau of Saumur its main architectural attraction, dominating the town's skyline.

For equestrian enthusiasts, Saumur is famous due to the Ecole Nationale d'Equeitation or the National School of Horsemanship. This is where the Cadre Noir calls home. The Cadre Noir is a famous equestrian show riding team, which was founded back in 1828. Many people flock to Saumur for the annual horse shows. The Musee du Cheval is also worth a visit to see an amazing collection of anything and everything related to horses.
