A religious centre in southwestern France, Grasse draws visitors with its perfume trade and delightful old buildings. Set just inland from the Mediterranean coast, the town enjoys easy access to the French Riviera as well as excellent road links with Italy.

Grasse has been the epicentre of the prosperous French perfume trade since the 18th century. Flowers used for their essential oils are grown in abundance in Grasse including jasmine. Many of the old perfumeries are open to the public for tours including Molinard, Galimard and Fragonard.

A popular time to arrive in Grasse is during the August Fête du Jasmine, or Jasmine Festival, when decorated floats pass through the town in celebration of the jasmine flower. Used in many French perfumes, jasmine in thrown among the crowds during the three-day celebration. If you prefer roses, Expo Rose is an international rose festival held in Grasse later in the year.

Grasse is also known for producing olive oil and visitors can stop by at some of the town's olive oil mills for a demonstration in how the oil is produced. After you've finished stocking up on olive oil and perfume, hop in your hire car and hit the outskirts of town to indulge in some horseback riding or mountain biking.
