A commune located in the northwestern suburbs about 17 miles from Paris, Cergy in Val d'Oise is perhaps best known for its port. Port Cergy, a beautiful marina on the River Oise, is where you can gasp at sleek, shiny yachts and practicing your yachting skills while in between dining at the cosmopolitan restaurants to the north of the marina.

Apart from the populated port, Cergy isn't exactly a tourist magnet. Around Cergy, however, are many quaint little villages you can visit. Ham, a small village to the south of Cergy, is an interesting stop. It's a main hub of outdoor activities with its own renowned Base de Loisirs de Cergy-Neuville centre.

If you run out of things to do in Cergy, head out to explore Val d'Oise in a hire car. The region is home to a magnificent array of old castles and historical gems. Ambelville boasts a remarkable chateau and lovely gardens, a fine example of Italian renaissance architecture. Its Sun Garden has a giant chessboard with unique chess pieces made of yew trees, offering fun photo opportunities.
