Explore Brest

One relic worth seeing in Brest is the old castle; the 15th century building looks quite remarkable and offers a superb panorama of the city. Three of its towers are the home of the collection of the Musée National de la Marine.

Walking around the streets of Brest, you’ll find remnants of just how beautiful the city was before it was flattened. Still remaining of that former beauty is the 14th century Tour Tanguy located the other side of the Penfeld River, with its conical slate roof. It now serves as the Musée de Vieux Brest and is definitely worth a visit.

Brest's newest and hottest attraction is Oceanopolis, which can be found only a few kms to the east of the city centre, next to the Port de Plaisance du Moulin Blanc. This futuristic complex currently is made up of three distinct aquariums and a 3-D cinema. It’s also possible to see all kinds of different species of sea life, a great day out for the kids.

Eating Out
Visitors will find a varied selection of restaurants to suit all budgets within Brest. Rue Jean-Jaur’s, spanning east from the place de la Liberte, has an abundance of bars and restaurants. To the north tourists will come across Place Guerin, which is located in the centre of the busy student area of St-Martin.

Brest Bretagne Airport is located a short 15 minute drive north towards Guipavas. There are approximately nine flights per day from Paris to Brest, either from Charles de Gaulle or Orly Airports. The flight time is about one hour.  Car rental suppliers operating from the arrivals hall include Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Citer and Sixt. For more options book car hire in Brest online in advance of travel.

There is a shuttle bus from the airport into the city, for those who do not want to hire a car. There are also several taxi firms operating from directly outside of the terminal building, but can be costly.

There are about nine TGV trains from Paris (Montparnasse train station) to Brest. The station is located in Brest's town centre. Buses service the town so if you don't wish to book a hire car then the buses are a cheap and fairly reliable way to get about.
