Located in northeastern France on the main route of the Eastern Railway between Chalons sur Marne and Nancy, Bar Le Duc is the capital of the Meuse department. The town's SNCF rail station serves direct high-speed TGV trains to Paris, Nancy, Metz and Strasbourg on a regular basis.

Situated near the city centre, Bar Le Duc Railway Station is equipped with adequate passenger facilities including ATMs, lavatories, refreshment outlets and newsagents.

Visitors from the UK can reach Bar Le Duc by taking the Eurostar from Waterloo Station in London to Lille or Paris, and from there a connecting train to Bar le Duc Railway Station. Ferry passengers from Dover can reach Bar Le Duc by train from the French seaports of Calais and Boulogne.

In Bar Le Duc, visitors can explore the Ville Haute (upper town) reached by steep, narrow streets and staircases. This quarter is traversed by a long, quiet street flanked by numerous magnificent mansions dating from the 15th to 17th centuries. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
