Nanaimo is located in British Columbia, Canada, on the Vancouver Island, referred to as the harbour city and also known as the bathtub racing capital of the world, it is a great place for tourists who enjoy going on a holiday where you can fish, relax sunbathing, or enjoy a day out on a boat.

This beautiful city was first founded by Europeans in the 1700's, so there's plenty of great, interesting historic attractions, which you will see as you walk through the beautiful streets of this old city.

Visit Duke Point, a peninsular jotting out into the bay, a lovely place to relax and watch the ferries coming in and out of the harbour. There are even a saw and pulp mill located at the end in a small industrial park.

Tourists should definitely take a trip to Newcastle Island, a marine provincial park. If you time it right, on particular days they do a stunning Salmon BBQ, popular with many locals and tourists that return to Nanaimo. They can even stay over night and camp on the island if they enjoy the great outdoors. To get there a ferry departs from Nanaimo Harbour from Maffeo Sutton Park. The island exhibits beautiful beaches and forests, great for exploring. Bike hire is also available and visitors to the island are able to enjoy a glorious swim in the sea during the summer season.

Less than an hours drive north of Nanaimo are the Englishman River Falls which should definitely be on your itinerary. To view interesting native rock carvings take a trip south of the city to Petroglyph Provincial Park, its a sight not to be missed. Another great attraction is located within the city itself called the Bastion, which is an octagonal shaped white building with a museum to explain its history.
