Guide

Griffith , a city is New South Wales, was established during the First World War in 1916, it was only gazetted as a city two decades ago in 1987. Currently its human population stands at around twenty five thousand people but this is projected to increase to around thirty five thousand people by the year 2030.

Griffith city got its name from Sir Arthur Griffith, a pioneer minister of Public Works in New South Wales and who served in that capacity from 1910 to 1915. Griffith was designed by an architect from Chicago named Walter Burley Griffin. Griffin's urban design portfolio in Australia also includes Canberra and Leeton.

The city is connected to Canberra and Sydney by the Burley Griffin way and the Hume Highway. To get from Griffith to Melbourne, or vice versa, use the Newell Highway, and in this case you have the option of either taking the Kidman Way or the Irrigation Way. Travelling by road is made easier by the availability of several car hire companies in the city.

Griffith is at the core of the expansive Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area making agriculture one of the important economic activities in the area. It is renowned for wine growing and the city has several wineries. Griffith city is also sometimes referred to as the wine and food country of Australia.

As regards to transport, there is a bus service that operates in the city and its surrounding's. There are also taxis and car hire companies at the beck and call of anyone needing their services.

Besides a museum, a theatre, an art gallery and antique shops and other fascinations, some of Griffith's wineries hold wine tasting events, which is a must for wine buffs.
