Bridgwater Guide

The town of Bridgwater is perhaps most famous as the birthplace of Admiral Robert Blake, but Blake's former home is just one of the many attractions awaiting visitors who explore the town by car hire in Bridgwater. Car rental in Bridgwater is particularly recommended as so many local attractions are outside of town and there aren't many other public transportation options.

Cheap car hire in Bridgwater can most obviously be found at the town's Enterprise and Sixt offices, but many more options are also available at any of the town's independent car rental businesses.

The Admiral Blake Museum is one of the first stops for most visitors to Bridgwater and exhibits displays on Blake's life, the Monmouth Rebellion, and other local exhibits in the home where Blake was born.

Another historic house in nearby Nether Stowey is Coleridge Cottage, where Samuel Taylor Coleridge moved with his family in 1796, wrote many of his most famous poems, and frequently received William Wordsworth as a guest. Coleridge's large inkstand, some of his letters, and locks of his hair are among the mementoes displayed in Coleridge Cottage.

Visitors to Bridgwater may also get wet in various ways at the Splash water park, try to bowl a strike at the Eastover Park Bowling Club, visit the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum, admire the tropical greenhouses at the Walled Gardens of Cannington, and gallop along the beach thanks to Travels on Horseback, which offers England's only trail riding holidays.
