One of southwest Turkey’s most important gateways, Diryarbakyr Airport is located only three miles from the city centre and shares its runways with the Turkish military. Arriving travellers can make use of car hire to easily reach the stunning sites in the old city, including the 11th century Ulu Camii mosque, the ancient Roman ruins as well as the historic Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı Museum; all of these are only about 10-15 minutes from the airport terminal by car. Otherwise, passengers can opt for taxi services and public buses for transport into town.

Diyarbakyr Airport offers a good range of car hire agencies; these include international brands Avis and Hertz, as well as local brand Emin Rent A Car. Rental counters are located near the baggage reclaim in the Arrivals area.

Driving
Driving in Turkey can be somewhat more hazardous than in the UK and Western Europe; visitors are advised to use caution and defensive driving techniques. Fortunately, the roads in and around Diyarbakyr are much less congested and chaotic than those seen in the country’s larger cities and popular tourist destinations. When planning your route in the city, be sure to note that many of Diyarbakyr’s main arteries are one-way and side streets can be too narrow for larger vehicles. Be aware that snowy road conditions are possible in Diyarbakyr from late November through February.

Transport

Diyarbakyr Airport’s close proximity to town (about three miles) makes it a fairly convenient facility for arriving passengers. Car hire and private vehicles allow for quick ground transport and plenty of freedom, although if you’re on a tight budget there are public buses services on offer. Finally, Taxis are readily available as well.

Trains
Trains do not serve the airport directly; however, the Diyarbakyr rail station is only around two miles from the terminal building. There are several weekly departures to Istanbul, Malataya and several regional destinations. Check with TCDD for further information.

Taxis
Passengers can get taxis at the official rank located directly outside the Arrivals doors. The ride into the city from the airport takes about 15 minutes.

Buses
Municipal buses connect the airport with the city centre and the main Diyarbakyr bus terminal. Departures are timed with the arrival of all flights. Facilities

Terminals
Diyarbakyr Airport is a small regional facility and uses only one terminal building for both domestic and international commercial flights. The terminal is at the northeast side of the airport at the end of Hava Limani Cd and is open seven days per week.

Parking
Public parking is available directly opposite the terminal building, although spaces are somewhat limited (200 vehicles) and are not covered. Contact the airport by phone (see below) for more information.

Wi-Fi
Wireless internet access is not currently provided for passengers at Diyarbakyr Airport.
