As the capital of the Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Korat has a historical significance and marks the border between Siamese and Lao territory. As the largest province in Isan, there's a world of possibility after securing cheap car hire at Korat Airport. Phimai is in important historical site, which many believe should be on the World Heritage list. This old city is over 900 years old is and accessible via car rental at Korat Airport.

There are several attractions surrounding Korat, which are also easily accessible via car hire at Korat Airport. Maha Wirawong National Museum holds a number of historical artefacts such as the Stone Buddha, potteries and bronze statues. Wat Sala Loi is also worth visiting and has designs and decoration that stand out from other traditional temples in the area.

For those interested in a quick trip outside of the city, Phanon Wan is located 20kms outside of Korat and is an old Khmer temple form the 16th and 17th century.
