On the coast of South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal, Margate is a resort town close to Port Shepstone. It was named by Englishman Henry Richardson after the UK resort in Kent. This resort is most accessible to visitors with a hire car. It remains quiet in the off-season, though tourist numbers have picked during December and January.

Of course, the most popular attraction is the coastal area, with its sandy beaches and lush, tropical flora. Tourist numbers peak during the summer (November to May) when the waters of the Indian Ocean are warm and inviting.
