Karachi Guide

Guide

Karachi is a coastal city, with a large sea port and business center, located in the Sindh province of south Pakistan. The Karachi-Peshawar, or Indus, highway offers access to Lahore. A highway from Karachi connects with the ancient port of Ormara in just under five hours and offers stunning coastal views throughout the journey. On the other end of Pakistan is Islamabad which is a very long 17 hour drive north or you can fly from Jinnah International Airport to Benazir Bhutto International Airport saving hours travel.

Jinnah International Airport is the closest airport to Karachi city center, only a 30 minute drive north. The airport has both international and domestic lounges offering food and drink in the restaurants. There is a shopping arcade offering traditional Pakistani rugs and memorabilia. There is also a bank, ATM and baggage holders. Taxi cabs are available outside the main terminal building.

While public transportation and taxis are available in the city of Karachi, in Pakistan, they can often be frustrating to those wanting to explore the area. Taxis are often expensive and hard-to-find while public transport is crowded and restricting.  Many visitors to the city prefer to opt for car hire as it allows them to travel safely and independently. If you arrive at Karchi's Airport then arrange to collect and drop off your hire car from there.

Driving your car hire vehicle in Karachi can be challenging, to say the least. Before setting out, invest in a decent map, a reliable guidebook and perfect your de-stressing rituals. While the road network is seemingly straight forward, your fellow drivers' driving styles will be anything but.  Safety is paramount when traveling in Pakistan. Keep your car doors locked while driving and stick to tried and tested routes.

There are many wonderful attractions to see like the Mahata Palace, Thatta, Frere Hall, the art gallery, Empress Market, Hilal Park and Cliffton Beach.
