Mama Ngina Guide

Mama Ngina, a municipal park and a famous street in Mombasa Kenya is a major pass through site in the area where most visitors set foot on their way to some of the greatest attractions in the city. The park runs through the waters of the Kilindini Harbour where lines and lines of local stalls selling treats for the road can be bought. The area is a good point from where you could book a cheap car hire at Mama Ngina to take along your road trip around Mombasa.

With car hire at Mama Ngina, the nearby Old Town which rests just around the harbor is easily accessible. At the Old Town, you would see some 72 hectares of old houses and some interesting sites. The Old Town also leads to the famous Old Port where the bold Fort Jesus stands. This towering construction built during the late 1500s by the Portuguese is a monument of the Portuguese military architecture.

Nearby is the Jumba la Mtwana, where remains of old mosques and houses can be seen. Some important digs such as Chinese porcelain and prominent pottery were also excavated in the area, proving the history behind the Swahii inhabitants of the area. Posted in the area is a nice hotel where you could park your car rental at Mama Ngina and spend the night to lodge and rest.

Further north is the Mtwapa site where more ruins of mud and stone buildings lie standing. Around the site is an expanse of natural forest where indigenous species of flora and fauna take refuge.

You may also drive your car hire at Mama Ngina further to the Lamu Old Town where museums and ancient tombs hold significant facets of history.
