Kanazawa Guide

Kanazawa is a city in Japan situated in the prefecture of Ishikawa. The name Kanazawa originates from a legend. The city is flanked by two rivers - Sai and Asano. The city of Kanazawa has a population of close to half a million people. It occupies an area of approximately four hundred and sixty seven square kilometres or a hundred and eight square miles. Thus the population density is approximately nine hundred and seventy persons per square kilometre.

The modes of transportation to Kanazawa are myriad and reliable. The airport closest to Kanazawa is in Komatsu city and is called Komatsu Airport. Flights into Komatsu Airport usually originate from such places as Tokyo, Narita, Fukuoka, Okinawa, Sendai and Sapporo. From Komatsu Airport one can also fly to such international destinations such as Shanghai in China and Seoul in South Korea.

Besides hiring a vehicle from a car hire company one can get to Kanazawa from Komatsu Airport by bus. A bus takes approximately fifty minutes from the airport if it is a direct bus. There are also indirect connections that one can make which would obviously take longer. If one insists on road transportation taxis are readily available alongside several car hire companies.

Trains also offer another means of getting to the city of Kanazawa from Tokyo. A journey to Kanazawa city from the train station in Tokyo takes around four hours and one has several options of routes to choose from.

One can also travel to Kanazawa city by bus from Tokyo which takes around seven hours. A bus journey from Osaka on the other hand takes around five hours while that of Kyoto to Kanazawa uses four hours.

Tourist attractions in Kanazawa mostly have to do with the city's architectural heritage which is both rich and unique. These include the famous Kanazawa castle, the Seisonkaku Villa and several Geisha houses.
